Michelle is an Associate at Low and Professor of Strategy & Innovation at Southampton Business School, the University of Southampton. She has extensive experience of the business world, including acting as an advisor to, and co-author of, the major OECD report on the ‘Globalisation of trade in retail services’. Michelle brings her expert strategy and innovation knowledge to Low and its projects.
Following her Cambridge PhD, Michelle embarked on a distinguished academic career with 30 years’ experience in five UK universities & two extended periods at HEIs. She was appointed Professor of Retail Management at the University of Surrey in 2004. In 2011, Michelle became Professor of Strategy & Innovation at the University of Southampton.
In 2014, she became a Founding Member of the University of Southampton Retail Research Group and Co- Director of the ESRC Retail Industry Business Engagement Network (RIBEN) awarded the 2014 ESRC ‘Outstanding Impact on Business’ Impact Prize.
She is the author of many works including ‘Servicing the Middle Classes’ (1994).
Michelle is a Member of Executive Board EPSRC/ESRC Advanced Institute of Management Research (AIM); Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (FAcSS); and Member ESRC/Innovate UK ‘Innovation Caucus’.
